A "Type-1 Diabetes Nature Camp" was organized from September 3-5 at Dardanos Campus under the University's Sports Sciences Application and Research Center. This was a volunteer project with staff from the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at our hospital and the Faculty of Sports Sciences.
From the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, Associate Professor Dr. Durmuş Doğan, diabetes nurses Hacer Karabulut and Mine Tepe, and doctors Dr. Alara Saltık, intern Dr. Rozerin Subaşı, intern Dr. Gencay Topal, and intern Dr. Emrah Kızıltaş, participated. From the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Associate Professor Dr. Hüseyin Özden Yurdakul, Associate Professor Dr. Emrah Aykora, and Associate Professor Dr. Sinan Uğraş, along with coach Metin Köse and camp leaders Esra Tataş, Sude Tüm, and Celal Emircan Bayburtlu, managed the camp process.
Various activities such as canoeing, swimming, climbing, zipline, field hockey, sky observation, and educational games were organized at the tent camp. The Çanakkale Troya Mountaineering Club and the Çanakkale Sailing Club supported the climbing and canoeing activities. Mr. Erdi Tan, a physical education teacher, introduced the campers to field hockey.
The goal of the camp was to help children with Type-1 diabetes develop habits of doing sports and exercise, gain more confidence in managing their diabetes, and successfully handle this process. The camp was completed successfully with the active participation of all attendees.
This event was an important step to support both the physical and psycho-social development of children with diabetes.
